US believes Kabul could fall to Taliban in 1-3 months

Kabul [Afghanistan], August 11 (ANI/Sputnik): The United States is concerned that the Taliban could capture Kabul in 1-3 months, far sooner than previous intelligence assessment suggested, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing informed American officials.

According to the newspaper, the situation in the country is now worse than it was in June when the US intelligence predicted that Kabul could collapse in 6-12 months after the American troop pullout from Afghanistan. “Everything is moving in the wrong direction,” a source familiar with the new intelligence assessment told the paper.

The hostilities between the Afghan government and the Taliban have intensified as foreign troops began withdrawing from the country. The Taliban have since captured large rural territories and launched an offensive on major cities. White House spokesperson Jen Psaki said on Tuesday that President Joe Biden continues to believe it is not inevitable the Taliban take over Kabul or entire Afghanistan. As Indian citizens we do expect our country to help are Afghan brothers and sisters in every possible way to live peaceful and violent free lives. But the onus is on Afghan people to defend their land against talibs and their supporters. When it comes to foreign forces, Afghans unite to fight passionately against foreign forces irrespective of their tribes, but when it comes to fighting talibs, the Afghan people shy away from defending their land due to conflict of interest. Many soldiers and talibs belong to same tribes and in few cases also have some family members working for talibs while other family members working for Afghan government and military. The reluctance of many individuals in military and government to fight people from their very own tribes has hampered the fight against talibs. Afghanistan is a classic example of "strength in unity and destruction in division" both at same time because for centuries they stood together to fight foreign forces but lacked the intent when it came to fighting their very own Afghans disguised as Talibs. It's high time that ordinary Afghans realize that nation comes first before their tribes and family for the sake of future generations of Afghanistan.
