Ukraine Crisis-Will India Abstain Again?

If we look at the global order now after the Russia and Ukraine Crisis, then we can identify that the world is divided into three basic parts i.e Countries that are in the support of Russia, Countries Opposing Russia/Supporting Ukraine and third one are the countries those are till now not taking any stance, for example-India, China. So, the world is looking towards these countries that are seemed to be not in the support of any side and that it why these countries are being forced to make their stance clear.

India is one of those countries that are Abstaining from voting. We saw India abstaining in UNSC and then in UNGA.

Before actually deciding whether India is doing right or wrong, we should look that why is India not condemning Russia’s Invasion. So there are multiple reasons for this. Some are Russia’s help to us in various historical events like the 1971 war with Pakistan and supporting our Nuclear launch. Russia has been helping us when none of the country was willing to do so, in fact they were supporting countries with hostile relations with India. India is not able to take any stance against Russia(Earlier USSR) because around 70% of our defence equipment are from Russia and we will need their spare parts in future so India is also depended on Russia for this.

Now taking the case that why India is not falling towards Ukraine .So the reason is that we want to maintain good relations with Russia and also there might be a chance of this fact playing a role that Ukraine has never supported India globally whether for the Nuclear Testing or Abrogation of Article 370.Infact they have provided weapons to India’s hostile nations like recently they gave Tanks worth millions of dollars to Pakistan.

Recently India’s Petroleum minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri got call from Russian government for buying crude oil in discounted price and India took the decision to import 3 million litre of crude oil from Russia in 25% less price. So it tells that India is not falling into any country’s pressure rather it is looking the ways how Indians can be benefited.

After the S400 Air defence system deal with Russia, US was expected to sanction India but till now it has not and also There is a rising demand among some people of US that after India indirectly helped Russia by buying Oil from them, It should be sanctioned by US authorities as it’s against them while talking about the stance of US government, then they are not forcing any country now because the western nations are also procuring Gas and Oil from Russia.

So in the coming future, India will be much more forced to take a stance as the world respects the opinion of India. We saw this recently that both the Russia’s president and Ukraine’s president called India’s Prime minister Shri Narendra Modi to tell the situation there. It tells that how important India is in the regional peace process and that brings a threat to India’s De-Hyphenation Policy in the upcoming future and I hope that Indian authorities will take stance as per the interest of itself and also in a way that the global order remains balanced as the Chess of Geopolitics will be In Asia in the upcoming future.

No doubt, we are in a tough spot. Russia is India's friend, US and Britain are friendly when it suits them. In 1971 it did not suit them. They are very sympathetic to Pakistan, despite its state-sponsored terrorism; neither will help us if India is to engage China (no one will, we are on our own on this one). US gave $37 billion to Pakistan despite hosting AQ and Laden, and despite funding and training Taliban. UK and US have not really helped when India needed help. Our problem: we frequently need help from others; we are not self-reliant. We are afraid of competing and have closed markets that have produced lousy products and services no one wants to buy unless they have no choice. We are heavily corrupt and ensure that all individual creativity and innovation is thoroughly defeated. We must accept that India is all alone, we cannot become pawns of any great power - despite how much they pressure. Also, we are well advised against the seduction; no US or Japan do not need India to counter China (they are fully capable themselves). If they are asking us to join, it is okay, but we should not think that they would view us as equal partners. We are not equal partners in anything; no nation with per capita GDP of $65K is equal partner with a nation with per capita GDP of $2K. Any more than the person in Mumbai who lives in a mansion and earns 33 times more than his driver, is partners with the driver. Staying independent is possible if we are capable of independence; i.e., self reliant. I.e., when we have our own weapons programs that actually work (and not just promise to work at some future, uncertain date). We don't even make a world class pistol; let us leave out anything more complex. It will require Indian businesses to produce world class goods and services that command premium prices in the world market; and we have a sum total of zero such businesses (we do make poor quality goods and services sold at cut rate prices). There is no easy way out for us here, but we could begin by gaining connection to reality. The reality is that our markets are protected, we have no track record of producing world class goods and services, we manufacture nothing of value anyone outside wants to buy at a good price, and 70% of our military equipment is vintage and does not work well. No Indian will buy anything made in India if s/he had a choice (mangoes, rice, food, and Ballywood music is not enough). Instead of imagining our way to the status of a global power (we are incapable of even deterring Pakistan, so let us even leave out regional power) - we could eradicate the corruption that lies at the root of our problems, and open our markets to competition. Otherwise, we are just talking big talk.
