The undated video seen by Reuters showed Humvees adorned with the Taliban flag on the mountaintops close to the village of Golbahar in Kapisa, on the border close to the southern end of the Panjshir valley.
The location of the video was verified by comparing terrain data and satellite imagery to scenes in the video. Comparing the sun’s position in the video also revealed that the video was likely taken sometime around noon local time, though the date the video was taken could not be verified.
Taliban sources claimed that the Islamist militia had seized the Panjshir province on Friday (September 3), prompting volleys of celebratory gunfire all over the capital Kabul. But former Vice President Amrullah Saleh, one of the leaders of the opposition forces, denied those claims.
