Indian and Western Media Bias during COVID

The Western media continues to exhibit offensive pictures of cremation without honoring the dead which they never did during 2020 when COVID was ravaging through Europe and United States. You did see funeral coffins lined up or people on pavements in Italy or UK waiting to get admitted to the hospitals. Plenty of elderly were chosen to die in Europe since they treated only the young and New York State made the decision of admitting COVID patients to elderly nursing homes which caused death of more seniors. These were hushed up in a few days time but the treatment to India was diametrically opposite. Of course, you cannot blame the Western ivory tower journalists alone because there are plenty of Indian ‘so called journalists’ who gleefully partake in this repulsive behavior of taking satisfaction during a period of national grief.

Let us review some numbers in terms of understanding the magnitude of calamity and whether the recent attention that India has been receiving was being over hyped. Using data compiled by Johns-Hopkins which is available of Wikipedia, it would be wise to look at per capita rates of infections and mortality. Obviously, one life lost in a family is unforgivable and any Government should throw all their resources to save that life. But, did India really do that much worse in terms of handling the crisis. The reason to look at data is critical because it takes emotions, biases and political leanings out of the equations. Also, the same people who gloat about science and rational thinking leave them out when writing articles for the Western world. As of the writing of this article on May 9, 2021 the per capita of rates of deaths per 100,000 can be looked at whether India deserves such a negative and dismal outlook. The G7 countries made up of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, United States, Italy and UK shall be used as a comparison. Deaths per 100,000 population: Italy – 203.48; Canada – 65.32; UK – 191.31; USA – 177.16; France – 158.72; Germany – 101.99 and Japan – 8.55.
In looking at images appearing on cover of global magazines, it would appear that India’s rate should be higher than all of them combined. But, India’s rate is 17.74. Almost, one tenth of UK, US and France and six times lower than Germany. The only country which has performed better than India is Japan. As of yesterday, Dr. Fauci and other scientific establishments in the US have indicated that the US deaths of 500,000 is actually close to 900,000. This only makes the number of fatalities per capita go up making it much worse for the G7 countries. Even if India’s fatality rates are multiplied by 3 or 4 times, India has still performed better in countering the pandemic better than six out of the seven G7 countries. So why is this hypocrisy?

The colonial hang over of the Western sahibs and their enslaved minions in the Indian media continue to peddle their distorted versions. It is saddening to see how they belittle their country, culture, people for a few pennies and ego massaging. They would rather sell their mothers and souls if they are found to be accepted as woke by their peers in the Western media. Alas, little do they know, that even American’s trust in the legacy media or mass media like the major newspapers have fallen to low single digits.

This article is not written to provide a succor to the administrations of India, including both the Central and State. It is high time to look at previous recommendations of high level groups set up by the Planning Commission and implement the suggestions. States have been lethargic in taking active steps to curb the spread and a few of the States have been notorious offenders in terms of case loads right from the beginning of the pandemic. The Central Government had allocated funds but have not followed up in terms of execution of the funds to install the appropriate resilience measures for the next phase.

The Indian media barring a few outlets are only doing more damage as they are more interested in winning elections the next round rather than helping the nation during a natural calamity. This is undoubtedly a bio-war unleashed by China upon the world and so far millions of humans have perished from this outbreak. Still, the international organizations are hesitant in calling the culprits and take them to task. Again, the hypocrisy of the media in open display. No one in the Western print of television wants to talk about China’s involvement in creating this pandemic and the Indian media to a large extent are focusing on the blame game of how to eek out election mileage.

What is sad to see is the fact that majority of the Indian media still are slaves to their Western masters and require recognition even if it means belittling your own people. Even Dante keeps the the worst circle of the Inferno for traitors. Should these traitors deserve any better?
