BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Commission said it had opened infringement proceedings against France, Malta, Latvia, Portugal and Slovakia as a result of their incomplete or incorrect transposition of the EU’s framework decision on the European arrest warrant.
“The European arrest warrant is a simplified cross-border judicial procedure to surrender a requested person for the purpose of prosecution or executing a custodial sentence or detention order,” the EU’s executive said in a statement on Thursday.
“The five notified member states now have two months to clarify the measures taken to ensure the correct and complete implementation of the framework decision on the European arrest warrant.”
