Our neighbor Pakistan, in yet another attempt to surpass India has drawn it nation security policy. They have called it comprehensive policy of national security focusing primarily on the economic security. This comprehensive policy took seven years to be framed and they have done it for the time 2022-2026, indeed a very productive work and first step to live up to efficiency. As mentioned above the policy focuses on the economic security but this focus seems blur with country’s loan soaring more than it’s GDP, it being in the debt trap of china and the sanctions under FATF grey list is doing the leftover. Moreover the internal disturbances and political instability maximizes the problem manifold. Although the policy focuses on new horizons, Pakistan still needs to revisit certain old problems.
For a long period of time Pakistan was being run by three A’s that is Allah (religious fundamentalists ), army and America. These A’s are also the reason of Pakistani economy being crippled. As of now two A’s are still prominent there but the A of America has been replaced with C of china and China continuing it’s policy of expansion left no stone unturned to lure Pakistan into debt trap. So the crux here is that Pakistan for now is in no position to shift the focus on economy. It is the interest of china that is compelling Pakistan to do so.
We all are aware about the dominance of Army in Pakistan’s political sphere. This dominance is also the prominent reason why there is economic turmoil. But why the army is actually so dominant there. The answer to that is “The anti-India sentiment”. Pakistan always tries to outlaw India on every front, although it has been never successful in it. It tries to portray itself economically strong , generator of more employment, raising Kashmir issue from time to time , protector of human rights etc. etc. All this is done to win the confidence of people there but these things are quit easy to be assessed and the reality in these is difficult to hide no matter how fake the propaganda is. So they found a simple solution to it and that was portraying their military more superior than ours. And as it becomes a matter of national security and confidentiality it becomes easier to lie. This creates a illusion in the eyes of citizen that army is great there and the various production activities like manufacturing tiffin box , daily use products adds cherry on the cake and depicts army more competent that administration there because it is unable to do even that. The evidence to support this was seen during the time when Tehreek-e- Taliban attacked the school in 2011 and murdered school children and the weeping parents prayed for the army to comeback and take over again. Hence the roots of this sentiment are deep there.
The last A depicting the fundamentalists and religious extremists and various terror organizations is majorly responsible of Pakistan being on the radar of FATF. Not only they promote external terrorism but now the internal conflicts are also on the high and the fact that Pakistani government has failed to control them has lead to the basic infrastructure there being fragmented.
Drawing up of the policy was easy but Pakistan looks in no state to live up to that. If they really want to focus and revive their economy their primary focus should be on strengthening the Democracy there and for that it should focus on strengthening government institutions there and providing correct information about the real state of affairs to the people in order to take them in confidence and ask for their contribution to work effectively. Rather than bringing new strategies to promote instability in India the leadership there should focus on drawing good policies within short period of time with visionary approach. But all these this are better said than done in case of Pakistan . The path of recovery is still vague and another coup might be around corner for them unfolding new career opportunities , if not for civilians but at least for extremists.
