Created, Destroyed, Re-Created by USA
Graveyard of the Soviet Union
At the peak of Soviet-Afghan conflict women along with children and the elderly went into Pakistan as refugees whereas ordinary men (Mujahidins) stayed in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets. Soviets were brutally dragged out of their comfort zone by untrained Afghan men supported by the USA and its allies. The line between a Mujahid and an ordinary man was blurred, so the man seen working on a farm in the day might turn into a gunfighter in the night. Decentralized command, Zero Diplomatic Channel, Guerrilla Warfare made sure that Soviets were fighting GHOSTS in Afghanistan. Soviet airpower which at start of the conflict was highly successful now was suffering heavily so much so that the Mujahids were shooting down Helicopters of Soviets on daily basis using American-supplied Surface to Air missiles. In 1988 Soviets were forced to retreat abandoning their puppet communist friends (Government of Afghanistan). And in 1992 Mujahids overthrew Communist Regime from Afghanistan.
Taliban in Making
Afghanistan became a land absent of women. Mujahids started having mental health issues as they say war changes men. In Afghanistan, it changed millions. Pakistan’s ISI took advantage and started sending volunteers to fight in Afghanistan. Radicalization became a new normal, several groups were formed, one more radicalized than the other and ‘Survival of Fittest’ was replaced by ‘Survival of Radicalist’. Mujahids started fighting among themselves and formed mini sovereign domains. Chaos was everywhere in rural areas as well as in urban towns.
Children of Mujahids were raised in the refugee camps of Pakistan which was ruled by Nawaz Sharif who approved the Shariat Bill in Pakistan paving way for Sharia Law. Afghan kids received education in Pakistan’s ISI-controlled Madrasas where radical Maulanas become father figure for kids. Students of the same Madrasas’ became Taliban (which in Arabic means Student). Seeing an opportunity in Afghanistan Nawaz Sharif started sending the Taliban into Afghanistan.
Taliban Vs Mujahids
People of Afghanistan were fed up with radical Mujahids and wanted stability which was promised by the Taliban Regime. Taliban started taking control of Afghan cities swiftly from Mujahids with the support of locals and Pakistan. By 1994 entire Afghan-Pak border was under the control of Taliban allowing Pakistan to export tax-free modern weapons for Taliban. Pakistan seeing its plan work started sending more and more kids into radical Madrasas and then to Afghanistan as Taliban. In a year majority of Afghanistan was under Taliban control. After grabbing power Taliban started filling the shoes of the previous regime, women were again cut off from the public, practices like five-times Nawaz daily became compulsory. Men could no longer shave their beards, women could no longer walk in public on their own, gates of schools were closed for women. Non-Muslim festival celebrations were banned. So much so Sharia law was put in place with a radical interpretation of Holy Quran.
War on Terror for 20 years
In 1998 Al-Qaeda declared war against USA. USA alleged Taliban is providing safe harbor for terrorists and asked Pakistan to keep Taliban in check which at that time lost influence over Taliban. Pakistan itself entered into yet another era of instability after losing war against India and General Musharraf taking over the power after a successful military coup. In the meantime, the USA was hit by the worse terror attack to date and it declared war on terror.
The USA started like the Soviets and was successful up to a level that Taliban was restricted to less than 30% of Afghanistan and by 2004 it was having its own constitution with all the cities under Afghanistan Government control. The influence of Taliban remained in rural Afghanistan which started modernization and continue attacking USA lead Afghan forces to stay relevant. Qatar gave Taliban a platform to propagate their preaching to world media. Seeing world order function Taliban decided to come under a centralized structure. As the media started giving Taliban leaders more space, its leaders became more and more relevant in Afghanistan peace process. West along with regional players started engaging with the Taliban directly. Seeing things at a status quo USA started rethinking as it has already lost more than 2000 troops in Afghanistan and trillions of dollars. Hence it started engaging with Taliban and Afghanistan government directly and in public with proper photo sessions in media presence. USA decided to pull its troops back as soon as 2020 but the peace deal was limited to papers. Taliban continued attacking Afghanistan troops and institutions. USA witnessed a political power change and a new regime was caught unprepared militarily as well as diplomatically as they fixed September 11, 2021, as date of complete pullout of USA lead NATO troops from Afghanistan. Earlier peace deal was there at least on paper but the new regime of USA forgot to secure any peace deal among various parties involved in the conflict.
USA Blunder
USA started pulling out giving the command to the Afghan Forces somewhere and leaving without transfer of commands elsewhere. Taliban saw the opportunity and started grabbing power. Afghan Forces proved to be without any willpower except for some places where they gave a tough fight to the latter. USA President was caught ill-informed who doesn’t even know what his intelligence agencies were saying in public. Taliban came again and occupied Afghanistan again. Rich politicians including President and Speaker flew out of the country leaving behind an unstable country in the hands of Radical Islamist Organisation which was created by USA, destroyed by USA, made relevant by USA, and given power by USA.
Changed World Order
USA was able to save its nose in Vietnam but in Afghanistan it has been chopped completely in public. Now annexation of Taiwan and Ukraine is inevitable because the image of so-called superpower has been tarnished and it will give confidence to China and Russia to expand further.
